Supremely strong three person self-supporting tent that can handle any situation in any kind of weather.
Tent Profile
The Saivo has always been a superb three person tent for adventures where absolute static strength is the highest priority. Redesigned for 2011, the latest Saivo is even better. As before, its Kerlon 1800 outer tent fabric and 10 mm poles afford exceptional sturdiness, and its dome design provides great static strength for handling heavy snow loading. But the new Saivo also shares many of the features found in our new four person Saitaris, including our new pole system, a combination of full pole sleeves, sleeves and clips, and integrated adjustable pole tensioners like those in our tunnel tents. The system was designed specifically both for impressive solidity and to make setting up a large, three or four person dome tent straightforward for one person, even in bad weather. Also like the Saitaris, the new Saivo has Keron tunnel tent-inspired vestibules, which are much roomier than those on the old version, and whose vestibules hooded vents add another dimension of air fl ow to the Saivos already impressive roof venting.
Indeed, the Saivo has the same usage profile as the Saitaris, but for three people rather than four: It is the optimum choice anytime strength and stability are of primary importance, so it makes an ideal base camp tent in the most demanding conditions, especially in high mountains, exposed or above tree line terrain, and arctic environments. The Saivo is also an excellent option for particularly demanding mobile journeys in exposed and/or relentlessly harsh conditions, or in any season where roomy comfort is important.
Saivo Users
Like the Saitaris, the Saivo is well-suited to a wide array of adventures. It is the quintessential tent for those, such as climbers and ski mountaineers in isolated, high-mountain terrain, who will leave their base camp unattended for extended periods of time. At the same time, its strength and space to weight ratio also make it a superb choice for expedition use in demanding conditions (the Saivo is often used by teams going to the South Pole). Ski and paddle tourers, as well as desert travelers, have long appreciated the Saivos spacious interior and roomy vestibules, as well as its self-supporting structure and easy-to-pitch design. Of course, all these attributes also make the Saivo a great choice for less demanding trips, as well, whether that's a weekend of car camping or a leisurely, week-long, base camp-oriented hiking vacation in the mountains.
performance attributes
- Kerlon 1800 outer tent fabric and 10 mm poles with multiple crossing points make for an exceptionally stable tent with outstanding snow-load handling capability.
- Multiple guy lines on the tent, the vestibule vent hoods and the vent cover afford even greater stability. Many of the guy line attachment loops on the tent are designed to be wrapped around poles or pole crossing points for maximum support.
- The Saivo has plenty of room for three occupants and their gear.
- Dual entrances ensure that one door can always be situated out of the wind and provide flexible entry/exit options.
- The Saivo’s ventilation system functions regardless of the weather conditions, thanks to its integrated components:
- Highly breathable yet water repellent inner tent fabric.
- Inner tent doors have a full no-see-um mesh panel covered with an equal sized, zipper-adjustable fabric panel for greater venting and weather-protection options.
- Large vents in each vestibule, placed high enough to keep air moving even if the tent is dug down into deep snow.
- Vestibule vents backed with no-see-um mesh and adjustable, air-permeable snow-proof panels that are accessible from inside the vestibules.
- Roof vents in the inner and the outer tents that are accessible from inside the tent.
- The inner tent roof vents can be opened or closed completely, and have no-see-um mesh backed by zipper-adjustable fabric panels.
- A separate vent cover ensures that the weather stays on the outside, even if the vents are fully open.
