Versatility

You will want to use your tent in different situations and environments without getting the idea that something feels unmatched or inappropriate. Hilleberg tents meet most of the demands you may have, no matter which model you choose.

In terms of all-round qualities and versatility nothing is too alien for a Hilleberg tent: from summer camping in New Hampshire to expedition use in the Himalayan range, from fishing trips to soloing to the North Pole, from Antarctic’s sub-zero temperatures to the central American jungles.

Some people use their tent only in summer while others use it in winter as well. Certain travellers enjoy desert country, while many adventurers are drawn to the mountains or polar environments. Their tents have to function equally well in the most shifting conditions and it is for us to make sure that they do so. The fact that all tents can be used complete or with their respective inners or outer tents underlines their versatility.

You can prepare food under the protective cover of the vestibule if weather conditions do not allow this outside. Use extreme caution and ventilate appropriately! If you need more head room in the vestibule while cooking, you can easily detach part of the inner tent to enlarge the area. In the GT-models you always have full head room in the vestibule

Warning! Never store food or cook in your tent if you are in an area where bears are present!

Effective ventilation is necessary when handling a stove in your tent. Therefore there are well-sized vents to allow steam to escape. Should you still get condensation, this can quite easily be wiped off with a cloth. Ideally, and weather permitting, you should sit inside the vestibule with the stove outside the tent. This is less hazardous and you do not risk any condensation at all.

Again, use caution! In bear-country you should cook at least 100 feet away and down-wind from your tent.

Longevity

The service life of a tent is of course an interesting factor when you invest a lot of money! A large number of Hilleberg tents that were manufactured 25 years ago are still in use. This speaks for itself. It proves how important the choice of components is and how essential utmost care and high ambitions are as a guidelines during the entire procedure of designing and manufacturing.

Our tents are frequently used on demanding expeditions in different places around the world, often for only a few months under conditions that equal several years of ordinary use. Our products stand up to the high expectations of and the wear and tear by special forces units (paratroopers, mountain units and marines) of the armed forces in several countries. These demands are key to our product development and ensure results in strength and longevity from which you can benefit.

Our choice of materials sets us apart from most of our competitors on the market. Hilleberg outer tent fabrics are four to six times stronger than standard fabrics; important for performance and the service life of a tent.

The models in our ultra-light series in Kerlon 1200 are very strong as well and will certainly outlive many similar products on the market. But in comparison with the Hilleberg tents in Kerlon 1800 and the stronger ground sheet fabric the durability and longevity will not be quite the same.

This is true for most extremely light equipment today. Often it is very functional and suitable for particular occasions, but it will not perform as well and long as the more traditional gear will. So if your demands are not locked around the absolutely lowest weight, frequently the somewhat heavier and probably sturdier equipment will be the better choice.

Good service is necessary, since even a Hilleberg tent might need repairs! Our service staff is ready to assist you if called on. You should know that we care for you and the problems you might have, not just now but also in the future.
