The Hilleberg Advantage
In the backcountry, inadequate shelter can have the direst
of consequences, so the tent you carry must be utterly reliable, in all ways,
in all seasons and in all weather conditions. Such absolute dependability is
the cornerstone criterion – along with low weight – for our choice of
materials, our construction methods, and our designs.
The materials used in our outer tents are arguably the
strongest, lightest such fabrics available, our floor materials are highly
durable and abrasion resistant, and our inner tent material is both distinctly
water repellent and remarkably breathable.
Since we own our own factory, we can – and do – demand the
highest quality control when we make our tents. The assembly of the inner and
outer tents are the responsibility of highly skilled and thoroughly trained
tent makers. Upon completion, each tent is fully set up and painstakingly
examined by a dedicated tent inspector before it can be certified ready to
ship.
It is their design, however, that makes Hilleberg tents
greater than the simple sum of great materials plus high quality construction.
And that design is a direct result both of being a company founded and run by a
family of avid outdoor enthusiasts, and of being a company with over 35 years
of tent making experience. Every Hilleberg tent has true all season
functionality, will last despite the hardest use, and is easy to pitch by one
person, even if it’s dark and one is wearing mittens! Outer and inner tents are
linked for simultaneous pitching, yet each component can be used separately.
Venting solutions work in the worst conditions, and the thoughtful engineering
of doors, vestibules and small details ensure the greatest comfort and
convenience.
In Every Hilleberg Tent
·
The outer tent’s Kerlon 1800, 1200, or SP fabric has extremely
high tear strength for maximum
durability at a very low weight.
·
There is plenty of room for the intended number of occupants and
their gear.
·
The linked inner and outer tents allow either simultaneous
pitching or separate use for the greatest versatility.
·
The outer tent goes all the way to the ground for true weather
protection, all year long.
·
The floor material is fully waterproof and highly puncture and
abrasion resistant for superior functionality and durability.
·
The highly breathable yet water repellent inner tent material
offers superb comfort.
·
The innovative venting solutions work even in the worst weather,
and even if the tent is dug deep into the snow, since the main vents are
situated high up in the tent.
·
Guy lines are already affixed at optimal locations. While not
necessary for pitching, guy lines add extra stability for severe conditions,
and having them engineered into the design ensures maximum functionality.
A Hilleberg tunnel tent’s design provides the greatest weight to space
ratio.
Low friction pole sleeves are open on only one end for
quick and easy pitching, even if it’s dark, windy, and you’re wearing mittens.
Pole tensioners are easy to adjust, even if you’re wearing
mittens, and they provide the optimal bend and tension for the poles’ strength.
A Hilleberg dome tent’s self-supporting or free standing design provides
the greatest snow-load handling.
Short pole-sleeve and clip system make for quick, easy
pitching, even if it’s dark, windy and snowing – and you’re wearing mittens.
The innovative, simple-to-use vent cover allows for vents
in both inner and outer tents, both of which can be adjusted from inside the
tent and which provide remarkable air flow. And the roof cover itself is
designed to keep even the worst rain- and snow-fall away from the vents.
tents for all seasons, all conditions
Most people go adventuring in the outdoors to BE outdoors
– hiking, climbing, paddling and the like – not to sit in a tent! Thus, the
most important thing your tent can do is afford lightweight, utterly reliable
protection when the weather turns extreme and you do have to be “inside.” With
this in mind, we design and build all of our tents to handle those worst-case
scenarios, like the sudden, intense storm that comes out of nowhere; the windy
ridge top you get stuck on for days; or the deluge that keeps you pinned to the
tiny bit of high ground your tent sits upon.
We favor our double wall design because in our opinion it
affords the very best blend of strength, safety, comfort, and versatility. Two
layers of fabric between you and the elements not only allow a greater degree
of comfort – the outer tent handles weather protection, while the inner tent
provides crucial condensation-limiting breathability – but also a redundancy
factor in case of a punctured tent. And, since our outer fabrics have such high
tear strengths, if a puncture does occur, there is far less chance that the
hole will become a tear than with weaker fabrics. In addition, our design
boasts a linked inner and outer tent, which not only allows simultaneous
pitching of both, but separate use of either.
This design and construction approach is more expensive,
but we believe that the performance it yields not only outperforms any other
method, but that it provides the highest possible value to you, the user.
It also produces tents that are “expedition ready” right
off the shelf. When polar expedition teams or Himalayan climbers buy Hilleberg
tents, they get exactly the same tent that any other user gets, with exactly
the same option – green or red. This means that whether you’re camping with
your kids over a weekend, backpacking with friends for a few days, canoe or
kayak touring remote lakes, or pushing the envelope on an extended winter ski
tour or mountaineering “mission,” your tent will stand up faithfully to every
situation.
