In 1973 the first Hilleberg tent was sold: the Keb – a
two-person ridge tent. From what we know this was the first tent made
that offered simultaneous pitching of the inner and outer tent. This was
30 years ago and modern development in tents made this type soon
obsolete and it was replaced by tunnel and dome designs. Our personal
interest in wilderness camping equipment developed hand in hand with our
professional life, resulting in uncountable backpacking trips and a
focus on quality and function in tent design. Although it has never been
our intention to become the biggest tentmaker in the market-place, it is
to be the best. Our many satisfied customers decide whether or not we
have been successful.
After 30 years of intensive work with the development of
lightweight tents we feel that both we, and our company, have reached a
level of maturity that warrants passing on the management of the company
to the next Hilleberg generation. Both our son Rolf and our daughter
Petra grew up outdoors with tents, and they also grew up as a part of
our business. Having completed their university studies they have now
started working in the family business. Petra is managing Hilleberg the
tentmaker, USA in Seattle, USA, and Rolf has taken over the management
of the European company in Sweden.
The two of us plan to continue our involvement in the
company as members of the board, but we are also looking forward to
having more time for various backpacking trips around the world. There
is still so much to discover; who knows, we may meet you somewhere out
there!
We hope you will enjoy our web site and our new
catalogue.
