Tremendously spacious, very stable and completely modular, the Atlas is
the ideal big-group tent for any situation.
Tent Profile
With its remarkably easy-to-pitch free standing design,
multiple poles and exceptionally strong Kerlon SP outer tent fabric, the
Atlas is the ideal base camp tent for large groups. It excels above tree
line in the most extreme conditions, where its great static strength is
capable of handling heavy snow loading. It is just as suited to below tree
line situations, however, since its modular construction allows for a high
degree of customization to any and all weather and terrain conditions.
Who uses the Atlas?
We originally designed and built the Atlas for polar
scientists who wanted a mobile research station, and it has been used with
great success by South Pole research teams for six years. Now generally
available, it will appeal to large backcountry groups of all types, from
mountaineering expeditions needing a highly reliable, spacious base camp
tent to outdoor programs looking for large, easily portable spaces for
sleeping and group gathering.
Why Choose The Atlas?
Large groups tents that are very strong, relatively
light, and easy to pitch are difficult to find. The Atlas is all these
things and more, since it is also totally modular.
§The Atlas’ Dome design is fully free standing, and its Dome
design offers exceptional snow-load handling.
§Thanks to an innovative combination of both our pole sleeves
and our short sleeve and clip systems, the Atlas can be pitched by a single
person.
§Kerlon SP outer tent fabric – which has a minimum tear
strength of 15 kilos – and 11 mm poles with multiple crossing points make
for an exceptionally stable tent with outstanding snow-load handling
capability.
§The Atlas will accommodate double poling, which is an
excellent practice when using the tent for a base camp in exposed terrain in
extreme conditions.
§It sleeps eight comfortably and weighs only 9.2 kg/20 lbs 5 oz
in its Basic version. It also boasts a full 205 cm/81 in interior height.
§Multiple guy line points – including those on the vent covers
– afford even greater stability, especially as many of the guy line
attachment loops are designed to be wrapped around poles or pole crossing
points.
§Its modular design let you use only the outer with vent cover
(Atlas Basic), or add the inner tent and/or floor. The floor itself can be
configured to cover the entire floor space, or only half if you wish to have
a kind of mud room area on one side and a sleeping area on the other. It can
also be arranged with an open aisle down the middle. The optional vestibule
adds more space and storage options, and the optional Connector links
multiple Atlas tents into a very space efficient “tent city.”
§The Atlas ventilation works in all conditions, as there are
two fully adjustable roof vents in the outer tent – and matching ones in the
optional inner tent – both of which are accessible from inside the tent.
There is also a rectangular mesh panel at the base of the outer tent door
covered by a zipper-adjustable fabric panel. In addition, half of the inner
tent door has a no-see-um mesh panel covered with an equal sized,
zipper-adjustable fabric panel for greater venting and weather-protection
options. A separate vent cover ensures that the weather stays on the
outside.
